We are extreemly pleased and proud that Ben Bull, Overton Under 14s Hooker has beaten off strong opposition to win the Hampshire North Central round of the RFU pro-Idol.
The event attended by over 50 players was held at Basingstoke Rugby Club on Monday 9th October.

But what is Prop idol scheme hits Hampshire  PRO IDOL ?
 

Jason Leonard is a big fan of Prop Idol

The search is on for potential front-row stars of the future in a Pop Idol-style recruitment drive in Hampshire by the Rugby Football Union (RFU).

The brilliantly named 'Prop Idol' scheme is on the look-out for boys and girls aged between 13 and 14 who have the talent to reach the top.
 
Over the next two months t he RFU is holding five roadshows where young props and hookers can test out their potential under the watchful eyes of London Irish forwards coach Toby Booth and England women's forward coach Graham Smith.

Each entrant will have their power and strength tested, using scrum machines and tackle bags to assess their potential, the  winners of the five roadshows will slug it out for the overall title of 2006 Hampshire Prop Idol.

The scheme has been backed by England front-row legend Jason Leonard, the world's most capped forward with 114 England appearances.

"It's great to hear of such a well thought-out scheme being used to promote front-row play and provide expert coaching and advice for young players," said the former Harlequins prop.

"Rugby's for everyone and I hope they go on to get years of enjoyment from the game as a result."

The aim of the roadshows is to raise the profile of front-row players and encourage children to start playing
