ORFC Coaching Team


One of the essential pillars of the club is the committed coaching team that works with all ages to ensure that the core skills are learnt and executed in the spirit of the game and in a safe and controlled manner.

This page will introduce each of the coachs and their objectives for their age-group.

Jonty Spaul - Men’s Team Coach

Jonty is also a RFU Level II coach and was formerly involved with Old Hamptonians coaching them to the Pilkington Shield Final at Twickenham 1994, and Middlesex Championship 1995. 

He is currently full-time Director of Sport at an all-boys school in Berkshire, but previously coached Purley John Fisher RFC to the London SW4 Championship in 2003 and was Surrey Schools U16 Head Coach 1998 - 2002 and a Divisional U16 Selector.

Jonty, first played with Overton as a 14 year old and has coached the Mens team to the Hants Div3 Championship 1996 and the Easter Festival title.

Jonty's credo is to "play a 15 man game, heads up - eyes open".


John Coventry - Assistant Coach

John has also been associated with the club from the age of 14 and has been Club Captain twice. He is an RFU level 1 coach and is also a serving Referee for the Hampshire Society. John's playing career includes Saracens, Mill Hill & Wimbledon and was a triallist with Hampshire's U21's squad.
